"Oi! Gun, too." Ianto protests, motioning to his pistol with a lopsided smile as he beckons Eddie to follow.
One of the creatures starts forward again. Ianto takes up his pipe in both hands and, without hesitation--and still smiling--runs headlong at the thing and starts beating it within an inch of its life. He's by no means untouched--tears appear in his shirt as it tries to strike back, rips that flash thin, screaming red lines of blood.
However, Ianto seems to take the upper hand by sheer ferocity alone. The mindless star creatures want only to maim and kill, but clearly even they aren't fully prepared for the absolute lack of regard for personal safety and the seemingly endless well of animal rage that currently personifies one Ianto Jones.
So the creature doesn't cower, and it definitely still tries to go after Ianto...but it's also clearly trying to find a way to either look for another target or, perhaps, get past Ianto to try and get claws into his friend instead.
