sing holly (i'm totally game death, feel free to kill the bard!)

There's a young man coming up the street, bundled up in a shabby secondhand coat, as he makes his way from one of the local dives, back to the Oak & Iron. It's an early night-- well, for Jeff, anyway-- and he's still pretty sober-- well, for Jeff, anyway-- feeling empty and dissatisfied in a way that liquor only seems to heighten.

What's the point of drinking if it won't even distract him from, like, ennui or whatever.

Singing helps, at least. Music always helps, makes him feel all warm and alive and connected to something greater, even on a frigid, miserable night like tonight.

"I want to love but it comes out wrong, I want to live but I don't belong," he sings out to the empty street, a melody interwoven with magic, as a little bird made of light dances and flutters just ahead of him. It's only an illusion, really, but its presence brings a bit of extra warmth, which is totally necessary, far as Jeff's concerned. He's from LA; he's not built for this kind of winter!

"I close my eyes and I see blood and rose-- ahhhh, oh." So he's not singing to an empty street, after all. There's a lady just ahead and she-- she's gotta be freezing, right? Jeff's fucking freezing, and he's got way more layers on than she seems to. "Heeeey." He waves. "You good?"
