If he's right in his guess, that's not an entirely new attitude, but he definitely wasn't aware there were enough people like that specifically for there to be a name for them. Most transphobes he knew just thought being a girl sucked and no one would be one if they didn't have to, but that having the right parts did mean you had to no matter how much you didn't want to. No feminism there, appropriated or otherwise.
