Even putting aside the existential questions about being dead or near-dead, there's just a lot of adjustment to do about how weird everything is here. Lots of things he assumed were true everywhere are not here, in ways that he never expected to have to question, ranging from 'everyone I will ever hold a conversation with will be human' to 'magic isn't real' to, well. The whole thing about there being more genders than he thought there were. He's getting the hang of swallowing his skepticism, but it's still giving him a lot to think about.
