Local PC Application

Hello! If you've received a direct link to this page by a mod, that means that you've been offered a role as a local Pumpkin Hollow citizen as a player character. This is a type of PC that is available by invitation only, and has a few special rules.

Players of local PCs will need to be open to collaborating more extensively with mods on their character's backstory and have the utmost commitment to following and enriching the established lore. Additionally, applicants should be committed, long-term players who are highly unlikely to drop, as it is much harder to write out these characters from the game. They are more akin to NPCs than they are "offworld" PCs. Obviously life happens and there's no way to completely guarantee that a player will never need to drop out of a game, but we are mitigating potential drops by looking for enthusiastic players with a demonstrable history of commitment, activity, and trustworthiness during the game.

Once you've been cleared for launch by the mod team, fill out the application below, and have it confirmed, you'll be granted access to the "Local News" channel in our Discord server. This will allow you to easily chat with the players of other local PCs and NPCs about lore, handwaved history, potential game spoilers for other players, and fun surprises for the rest of the cast!

Without further ado, the form is below! Please reply to the application thread so that we are notified of your application. Thanks for your continued awesomeness!

Deirdre ???? | Using This Journal B/C I'll Make One For Deirdre After We Hash Things Out

[personal profile] somebodychildofanyone 2024-02-07 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Out of Character

Player: Vox
Current Characters: "Slasher Face" Jean, River la Croix, & Our Vikas
Discord Contact: Prince_of_Knives
Role Sought: Looking to hold down a bit of the Plot and give insight into the workings of the town! See below for more details
Plot Opt-In: Looking to receive plot; feeling a hook into one of the local mysteries or disasters (Parade Day, Lake Salt-Co-Penn, the River Walker, etc)

In-Character

Character Name: Deirdre ??? [I am soliciting help on a family name, or potentially an existing NPC's family to graft her into]
Character Species: Tiefling! Her father was Jack (of Jack's Marina) and Deirdre was born from his ill-advised, badly managed, and frankly embarrassing dealings with demons.
Job: Deirdre serves on the Safety Board, but makes her Brass with a controlling stake in Jack's Marina, one she fought tooth and nail to get; her father's exile for his naked corruption and infernal dealings nearly got it stripped from her by law. She's not bitter about it, you're bitter about it.
History: Deirdre was, for lack of a better term, born here! Technically she was born wherever her demonic mother was at the time (details to be hashed out with y'all there), but she's never known a home other than Marrow Island. When Dad was still in the picture she had dreams of studying magic, but the testimony of Neil West and Elias was instrumental in Jack's exile, and Deirdre stopped lessons after that. Does she hate her father? Absolutely. Is she still pissed at those two? Also yes. Will she be resolving that? Who fucking knows. Fighting tooth and nail to keep her inheritance in this major business for Marrow Island means she had to have dealings with the Leeds family one way or the other; being the port of entry for sailors and their ilk encouraged a good working relationship with the owners of Oak & Iron. All in all, up until this point in the game Deirdre's been a relatively silent but kinda titanic figure of the old economy, one whose wealth and power has been very negatively impacted by the barrier but is not, as it were, gone. Fishing ships still need her services. Even that rat bastard Calloway has to buy his caulk and wood and other supplies from someone. Deirdre still owns these waters, damnit, and she'll be dead, damned, and done before she lets them go.
Faction: I believe I will solicit advice here?

Deirdre Breugaire | Finalized Application

Out of Character

Player: Vox
Current Characters: "Slasher Face" Jean, River la Croix, & Our Vikas
Discord Contact: Prince_of_Knives
Role Sought: Business Magnate
Plot Opt-In: Oh, you know~

In-Character

Character Name: Deirdre Breugaire
Character Species: Tiefling
Job: Deirdre serves on the Safety Board, helping assess damage claims and process repayments, but makes her Brass as the owner of Jack's Marina.
History: Deirdre's mysterious arrival as an infant was rapidly followed by her insistent adoption by Jack Breugaire and his wife Ethel Hawthorne; it's still a subject of good-natured public mockery that Ethel "didn't want a child" and then started winning Mom of the Year every goddamn year about it. Precocious and interested in scholarship, Deirdre began studying magic with Neil West at a young age.

Then she hit 14, and Jack fucked up his demonic payment plan. All human disguise was ripped from Deirdre to everyone's surprise, very much including her own, and the formal letter explaining that Jack could no longer afford his "service package" kicked off a series of public recriminations culminating in a formal trial for financial corruption, infernal collusion, embezzlement, and tax evasion. Jack was sentenced to exile from Marrow Island, with Doctor West's testimony providing both the key evidence and extremely public theorizing that Claunthe, the Lady of Legbreakers, was the most likely candidate for Deirdre's birth mother. All lessons stopped immediately, and that relationship has been extremely strained ever since. Ethel stood by her adopted daughter through thick and thin, and her support was instrumental in keeping the Marina from being seized by the town; Deirdre remains fiercely protective over "her" waters and the dockworkers & shipwrights she employs. She'd rather die than abandon her claim, and lost more than a few friends with her scathing indictment of the "cowards running like rats" during the evacuations. This is her home, these are her waters, and these are her people; she's in it to the bitter end.

Faction: Historical Society; never underestimate the research power of offering your clerks time and a half to tear through some books.
