This is also where you submit special purchase requests. Whenever you want to buy something not listed in the shops, such as a custom item that doesn’t have a specified price, you will need to make a purchase request to have a price issued to you. Special items that must be acquired through the Shady Merchant can be requested here and purchased here. You will also need to inform the bank when you upgrade your home or business, change jobs, or start a new business!

However, for non-upgrade items with predetermined prices such as your grocery budget, you can just add them to your ledger without making a formal request. This also includes items with previously determined prices as found in the buyer's guide.

So part of this will be determining how much access to equipment he might already have--- what job did he take?

I think that Artisan would be most suitable for his immediate goals. He's quite happy reasonably content to fund his research by doing repair work and accepting special orders from the townspeople, but he's not interested in letting the railroad or factories dictate his schedule. I had this idea that he spent the last half of November shadowing the other electricians in town to prove he knew what he was doing before basically earning permission to work for himself (this is also why I had him buy his own tools out of pocket during that period). If that meets with your approval we could also say that that was his trial period for getting into the Guild?

Heeeeey mods I'm sorry to bring this up again, I know you're really busy! But Tara's CR has advanced to the point that I'd really like to move forward with at least the radio project and build a transmitter for Cecil. Is that okay?

Tara is good to take on electrician work as an Artisan, which will give him more advanced tools and a workshop. You can move forward with the project!

Thank you! I would like to add battery packs to the list of potential research projects for Tarantulas to undertake.

(Also, since this was on my mind earlier: if this method of offering up inventions for your approval isn't working for you I'd be happy to do something else. I just want to be fully transparent here <3)

Can the battery packs be made with items found naturally or manufactured on the island?

Yes. The initial products would probably resemble lead-acid batteries (invented 1859) with subsequent development focused on shrinking their size and improving efficiency. The necessary ingredients are lead (both in plate and oxide form), sulfur (for cooking the acid) and water.
