Character Claim

To claim a character, you'll post the form at the bottom of the post in a reply to the comment for that month. Please no toplevel character claims! This helps us stay organized.

How many characters can you claim? Each player may claim a maximum of seven characters at this time. We recommend you do them one at a time, taking time to find your footing with each one before adding the next, but we have no specific requirements as to when you can app in each character. You can also always test drive as many characters as you want.

What kinds of characters can you bring in? Our rule of thumb is that any character that makes reasonable narrative sense. Please note that the death or near-death experience required for the narrative does not necessarily have to be canon--- you can invent one specifically for RP purposes here! See our FAQ for more information or ask a mod if you're not sure, but most things should be fine Original characters welcomed and encouraged!

Is there an age minimum for characters? Yes and no. Due to the fact that Pumpkin Hollow is inherently a horror-centric game and is NSFW-friendly, we strongly recommend and prefer characters that are over the age of 18. However, we may take applications for characters who are minors on a case-by-case basis if we believe that they would be narratively well-suited to the setting. There is no specific minimum age, but age will be taken into consideration alongside other factors when we make these decisions. Feel free to ask a moderator about the suitability of a character younger than 18 before filling out an application.

Is there a cast cap? Not presently! However, we do want to keep our overall cast as diverse as possible, so if we need to, we may set a reasonable cap proportional to the size of our game down the road.

What about doubles of an existing player character? Doubles are not encouraged but would be accepted if each version is significantly unique from the other. For example, the protagonist a game with multiple branching paths might be wildly different between those paths!

Can I play more than one character from the same canon? Again, this isn't necessarily encouraged, as we'd much prefer castmates be able to interact freely. However, if you receive mod approval then yes, playing multiple characters from a canon is possible on a case-by-case basis. Approval will depend on various factors (e.g. characters from your original canon or that do not interact are easiest to approve). However, please note that you cannot acquire bonus AC for threads/interactions solely between your own characters.

Can my character bring along an attached NPC? This is may be allowed on a case-by-case basis if it makes narrative sense. For example, Sam from Death Stranding could ostensibly come here with Lou, the baby he carries with him. Please reach out to the mod team to discuss the specifics of your situation! We try to be flexible where we can.

All that said, we look forward to seeing your characters in Pumpkin Hollow. You may notice that some information is requested twice; this is because you're filling out both a claim post and a text area that we'll copy and paste into the taken list. See you soon!

Ellen Louise Ripley | Alien (1979)

[personal profile] 2onostromo 2025-01-05 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)

Player

Player Name: Connor/Dominik
Other Characters (if any): The Lobby Boy- gonna be posting an app for him soon!

Character

Character Name: Ellen Louise Ripley
Character Age: 29
Canon: Alien franchise.
Canon Point: Post 1979 film.
CRAU (if any): N/a
• ────────── •
History: Tucked away in the black velocities of Deep Space, Ellen Louise Ripley and her crew awaken from cryo-stasis to investigate a distress call of unknown origin. After unknowingly landing on the moon Acheron (LV-426) and allowing a single Xenomorph specimen inside, her crew is decimated one by one. Prior to this, Ripley's efforts to adhere to standard safety protocols are thwarted by her colleagues' poor decision making. Quarantine rules are ignored. Opportunities to destroy the Xenomorph specimen before it has reached full maturity are ignored. Her predominantly male crew often disregards her better judgement, which ultimately leads to their demise.

Together with her feline-companion, Ripley sets the Nostromo into self-destruct and escapes into a shuttle. There, she's greeted by dripping, silvery jaws and the rubbery, bulbous head of the Xenomorph. She thinks quickly, affixing herself to the shuttle wall via an astronaut's suit. After successfully launching the Xenomorph into space, Ripley & Jones the cat enter cryo-sleep and prepare for their journey home...

Ripley's canon likely won't include aspects of Aliens (1986), including her having a husband and child. Sorry Amanda!

Personality: Ripley demonstrates an impressive sense of duty and professionalism. She makes decisions by-the-book, and her strict adherence to rules often creates tension between herself and her peers. Despite this, she has the capacity to be relatively laid back, enjoying communal meals with her crew. Any attempt to speak over or silence her are swiftly shut down, especially post-canon. She isn't afraid to make her opinion known.

Her experience aboard the Nostromo leaves her with paralyzing nightmares and a jaded view of the world and those who inhabit it. Violence experienced at the hands of her peer Ash brings about an extreme distrust for synthetics, or humanoid robots. She also harbors an aversion toward alien organisms, to no one's surprise.

Initial Game Plan: Her first plan of action will likely be to launch herself into finding work. Ripley has always been a work-driven individual, and this will be exacerbated by her condition post-canon. A way to avoid and find distraction from nightmares and flashbacks. After finding herself a decent way to bring in some money, she’ll look at settling down and becoming familiar with the Pumpkin Hollow locals. She may think of herself as somewhat unsocial, but the need to make connections post-canon will be strong. She’s a person, and people live best in the company of others.
RP Interests: Building rapport and CR with other characters, have Ripley work through some of her traumas with the people she’s built trust with, things of this nature. I’m a lover of angst and action, even better if they’re combined. Seeing that I play Ripley, I’m always down for some monster fighting. If you wanna plot out some fun supernatural shenanigans, monster fights, hurt/comfort and physical injury plots, come my way! Generally, nothing is off the table.
Preferred Job: Laborer
NSFW-friendly?: Yes!

The Lobby Boy | The Hotel Podcast

[personal profile] thelobbyboydies 2025-01-06 04:51 am (UTC)(link)

Player

Player Name: Connor/Dominik
Other Characters (if any): Ellen Ripley, already posted

Character

Character Name: The Lobby Boy
Character Age: Between 25-30.
Canon: The Hotel Podcast
Canon Point: Still up in the air about this-- tbd!
CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: Under the supervision of his Manager and the Owner, the Lobby Boy oversees the creation of rooms, disposal of guests and general upkeep for The Hotel. He is human in appearance with unseemly, rotting features. Management is not sure how or where Lobby Boys appear, and in the case that one Lobby Boy is indisposed, another one is made. Presumably, The Hotel Herself is responsible for this creation...

"From five star resorts down to seedy motels, each episode the Hotel changes her shape and a new guest checks in with The Manager, The Lobby Boy, and The Owner. Good and bad, innocent or guilty, Hotel policy is no one is turned away, and no one checks out. Not even the staff."
Personality: The Lobby Boy performs any and all duties obediently. He isn't opposed to cleaning up someone else's mess-- in fact, it's all he knows. If you take a look in his mop bucket, you'll find it brimming with blood. Because of this he's got a strong stomach for gore but a perverse and unconquerable fear of all things unknown. That is to say, most things.
Initial Game Plan: Lots of time will be spent adjusting to Pumpkin Hollow and its residents. Having existed exclusively in The Hotel, he has little to no concept of things that might seem obvious to others. There's much to learn, and once he pushes past the initial barrier of fear, he'd like for nothing more than to make a life for himself.
RP Interests: Making interpersonal connections is a big one. The Lobby Boy's socialization consists of his Management, who exploit and abuse him, so he's certainly looking for a change. Fear will be a big hurdle at first. I'd like to navigate how this initially hinders him and in what ways he'll grow past this terror. Lots of opportunities for gross things too! The Lobby Boy is easily manipulated, so any antagonist-like characters looking for someone to do their dirty work or to clean their messes will find an obedient dog in him. I'm a lover of gore, so let's get nasty!

Preferred Job: Laborer, some kind of custodian or... You guessed it... Lobby boy (perhaps at the Oak & Iron).
NSFW-friendly?: Yes!

Hector | Great God Grove

[personal profile] carefulinspekshun 2025-01-07 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)

Player

Player Name: Harvey!
Other Characters (if any): Jon Sims, Laios Touden, Basira Hussain, Sasha James

Character

Character Name: Hector
Character Age: 56
Canon: Great God Grove
Canon Point: In the middle of the final confrontation - will elaborate further in the History section!
CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: [Heavy warning for spoilers for Great God Grove!]

Having started out having grown up in Drain, a place regarded so poorly by the rest of the world, Earth and God Grove included, that it's used as an expletive, Hector is described by many as having clawed his way out of Drain through nothing short of persistence and sheer effort, building the Bizzyboys (a group dedicated to mystery-solving and finding solutions to any number of problems) up from nothing before they gained a foothold in God Grove. After a successful campaign in the god elections, he ascended to becoming Inspekta, the God of Leadership.

Unfortunately, his attempts to rise to godhood were not with the best of intentions; Hector, as a person, was deeply scared of fading into irrelevance, and for his life to lack meaning, things he sought to have fixed by becoming a god. When these things were not mended by his ascension, he began a slow decline of self over thirty years. All of it came to a head when the Grove's newest Godpoke, a mail-carrier of the Gods by the name of King, was quickly beloved by the Grove, and granted an early election to become deified.

Overcome with jealousy and the sense that her presence would ultimately lead to his becoming forgotten, Inspekta captured King, and began using her name to turn the gods against one-another, with the intention to cause an apocalypse that would empty the heavens, save for himself. It was only through the persistence of a new Godpoke did he realize the error of his ways, and how he'd turned his back to everyone that had loved him, just as the Rift, the apocalyptic passage between the heavens and the mortal world, widens too far for the gods to close...

(And now, here he is!)

Personality: Hector is, in a few words, a deeply ambitious person. Hardworking and exuberant, Hector has been described as a natural born leader by many. He's got a carefully curated reputation for being vibrant, friendly, helpful, and determined - and these qualities are legitimate most of the time! However, struggles with a number of unseemly hidden personality flaws--- jealousy chief among them. Many of these selfish qualities would diminish the value of the work that he does if they were known. However, a recent eye-opening incident has made him more self-aware, and he has been taking the time to work on himself. That isn't to say he's incapable of falling back into old habits, but he's putting in the effort.

Initial Game Plan: Rapidly oscillating between self-destruction and falling back in routine, Hector's first and most needed step is establishing a sense of normalcy. He's caught in a rock and a hard place of acknowledging the harm he's done, but having the desperation to maintain an image in this new place, and will have to figure out a balancing act with both of these things.

From the jump, his goals are going to be making connections, understanding how the town works, and establishing himself as a member of the community that people seek out.

RP Interests: I'd love for CR of all varieties! Friends and enemies alike. :) He does his best to be a charming guy, but he is also, unfortunately, kind of a self-centered asshole (in recovery!), and hasn't exactly been in a position where that's had consequences in 33 years.

(He's not exactly open for a relationship, as he'll be figuring out his Situationship, but he is prone to assuming there's flirting happening, and is always a sucker for attention.)

Preferred Job: Enforcer, on a technicality - he'll be starting a new sect of the Bizzyboys, once he's settled in!

NSFW-friendly?: Yes, but good luck if you're not This One Specific Guy.

Capochin | Great God Grove

[personal profile] staybizzy 2025-01-08 04:50 am (UTC)(link)

Player

Player Name: Rose
Other Characters (if any): All of them. Yep, even that one. (I'm a mod, I'm allowed to make jokes on my forms)

Character

Character Name: Capochin (Last name Bastone is non-canon)
Character Age: 55
Canon: Great God Grove
Canon Point: The Spire
CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: Unfortunately the wiki for Capochin is incredibly barebones so I'll need to do this myself. Spoilers for Great God Grove ahead!!

Capochin originates from a place called Drain, which is a strange sort of city-state/no man's land that separates the Grove of the Gods from the rest of the earth. It is a wet, miserable trash heap full of waste water, constant rain, and cheap housing amid the detritus of both worlds, which is gradually building up and displacing residents. It is not a pleasant place to live.

It was in his late teens bleeding into early adulthood that he met his friend and confidante, Hector Monaque, who would go on to found the mystery-solving organization, the Bizzyboys! With Capochin as his right hand and very first Bizzyboy, the organization expanded to the God Grove and led to Hector's eventual bid for godhood. Through an election process that allows the people of the world to choose their gods, Hector was successfully elected to ascend via an interdimensional rift to a place in the heavens as Inspekta, the God of Leadership. For the next 33 years, Capochin served at his right hand, his closest confidante, his loyal acolyte.

Capochin's bond of devotion escalated over the years, to the point where he was willing to mutilate himself for Inspekta's benefit. When Inspekta spiraled into a fit of paranoia and jealousy at the popularity of the next rightfully elected god, he hatched a plan to make himself the only god, and Capochin followed along dutifully, misusing and mistreating his employees and slandering others, but at long last he realized that he was making a horrible mistake. Hopefully not too late.

Personality: Brash and loud, Capochin has been known to be an incredibly demanding boss who is prone to petty jealousy and harsh punishment. He is working on these things and trying to become kinder, but sometimes it can be a bit of a knee jerk, and he's not above the occasional rude prank or petty joke. Ultimately, though, he is a deeply and fiercely loyal person in search of validation, belonging, and purpose who will fight with all that he has.
Initial Game Plan: Figure out what his relationship with Hector is supposed to be now and reform the Bizzyboys!
RP Interests: Religious philosophy, healing himself, making new friends and having people he can depend on!
Preferred Job: Bizzyboy!! [Enforcer]
NSFW-friendly?: Yes but this is going to default to Hector lol

Major Margaret Houlihan | MASH

[personal profile] soldierslikeus 2025-01-10 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)

Player

Player Name: Blue
Other Characters (if any): Daisy, Ruby, Alice, Gwen, CT, Melanie

Character

Character Name: Margaret Houlihan
Character Age: 32ish or thereabouts
Canon: M*A*S*H
Canon Point: s8e17: Heal Thyself
CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: Wiki Entry
Personality: Margaret is a stubborn, ambitious, dedicated woman stuck in an era where the furthest any woman is expected to go in life is to the head of a family dinner table. Raised an army brat, she always knew that she wanted to join the military herself as soon as possible and she typically thrives in the structure that the army provides. She holds a great reverence for the command structure, putting more stock in the value of rank and position than almost anyone else in the 4077 even as she loosened up over time.

A military psychologist once described Margaret as: "an interesting woman: on the outside, all discipline and strength, and on the inside, six kinds of passion looking for an exit." These passions include a hair-trigger temper, a desire for genuine human connection often complicated by her equally strong libido, deep care for her patients, and ambition enough to try and carve her place in this mans' world. These have all gotten her in trouble in various ways throughout her service in Korea, initially as more of an antagonistic force pitted against most of her fellow personnel and then later as someone who'd become more one of the gang, growing as tired of the war as any of them despite her loyalty to the military.

Because in the end, Margaret cares deeply about other people, despite any and all attempts not to, often hiding behind her rank and responsibilities in ways that put distance between her and the very people she wishes would include her. She struggles to show it, let alone actually form those meaningful connections she craves, but that doesn't change the truth. It's when she starts to allow herself to feel and care more openly that she really starts to come into her own.

Initial Game Plan: Margaret's going to immediately want to find work and settle into a routine to get some structure back after this weird turn in her life. Also probably drink a fair amount.
RP Interests: Other military types and medical types are a good ground for starting CR. She also desperately needs some lady friends! I'm generally interested in playing with her having to adapt to the lack of military structure or wartime pressure, getting her to lower her walls even further, so on. Also open to possible shipping/casual hook-ups. Someone destroy this woman's perception that she's straight.
Preferred Job: Physician! She's going to work in Hawkeye's clinic.
NSFW-friendly?: Yes!

Other Characters (if any): None yet.

Character

Character Name: Tavion Axmis
Character Age: Late 20s/Early 30s
Canon: Star Wars: Jedi Academy
Canon Point: Her death at the end of the game
CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: Here

Personality: A disciplined dark jedi, Tavion's personality is one that previously overcompensated for her own fears. The Dark Side requires strong emotions to use - including anger, hate, fear - which depends on the Dark Jedi. In Tavion's case, her rage comes at least in part from her own perceptions of weakness and the need to avoid it. Her power creates a certain arrogance, and in life an overconfidence - now that the worst has happened, it's anybody's guess who she becomes.

Initial Game Plan: Her initial plan will be to get her bearings and see what ways she can turn it to her advantage - the idea of getting the power of the place under her control will absolutely occur to her.

RP Interests: I'm an omnivore, I like a bit of everything! Slice of life, mystery, plotting, positive/negative - I'm up for anything. Super happy to entertain any plans as well.

Preferred Job:N/A for now

NSFW-friendly?: No problem!

• ────────── •
History: After the attack that killed his parents and left him forever marked, Tom was sent to live with his grandparents in Dublin, Ohio. As a child, he had a very hard time fitting in with his peers and developed a terrible temper that was understood to be from the trauma he'd endured. It came to a head when he attacked another child that had been bullying him, leaving them bloodied on the ground. His grandparents moved him to another school district, and the incident made him terrified of his own anger.

After high school he attended Hollins University, an all-women's private university in Virginia, where he met Lorelei. His grandparents passed while he was away at college, and it was only after their passing that Tom came out as a man. After graduation, he and Lori moved in together in Columbus and started their blog Ohio Is For Weirdos and eventually the youtube channel Strange Midwest.

Some years later, while driving home from D&D, they stopped for gas and came across a voice memo device laying in the grass with an unnerving message recorded on it. The incident that followed would lead to their being recruited by the paranormal research branch of the Warren-Hill Institute.

Many misadventures have occurred since he began working at Warren-Hill, but the most personal was being sent back to Timberlost after two investigators sent there returned in bodybags with the third still missing. While there, Tom learned the true nature of the monster that's haunted his nightmares: a Hunt Avatar called the Woodsman that would massacre families, leaving one survivor in order to mark them by the Hunt. Those he marked would eventually be drawn back to him, seeking revenge, so he could revel in the fight. With the help of Lorelei and some newer friends, Tom was able to best the Woodsman, taking the Avatar's own weapon from him and killing him with it.

With the monster that killed his family and haunted his steps his entire life gone by his own hand, Tom is now investigating what exactly Warren-Hill is up to and why no one is able to quit their jobs there alongside Lorelei and many others. While investigating, they came to learn that they, along with several other employees at Warren-Hill, were being groomed to fill a "Fear Senate". An Avatar for each Fear entity, caught in the Web, to usher in the apocalypse. Already deeply marked by the Hunt, Tom tried to avoid falling further into it, but ended up falling into those instincts many times in order to protect those around him, until it was only a matter of time. To become an Avatar, you have to experience a death of some sort; for some, it is a metaphorical death. For Tom, it was very literal. While investigating reports of Mothman (yes, really), he was snatched into the sky by Mothman and dropped from several stories up. (Yes, really, he got killed by Mothman!)

Upon his death, Tom was given a choice; to chase or to be chased. He chose the former, and came back... different. Due to his new not-quite-human nature, he needs to feed on the fear of others in order to survive-- and specifically he needs to feed on the fear of being hunted.
Personality: Tom is a quiet, somewhat reserved young man with a very dry sense of humor and fierce loyalty to his friends. He can come across as stand-offish when he's still getting to know someone, but he's really just riddled with social anxiety. Having his best friend and platonic life partner Lori nearby (and she nearly always is) helps. In relationships, he can be a bit of a push-over and people-pleaser, and this has gotten him into some bad romantic entanglements in the past. He's a huge nerd that has very strong opinions about libraries and access to education.

Tom is intensely protective of the people around him, despite looking like a beige sweater came to life and became a librarian. He is a naturally helpful person and a problem-solver, which makes him very good to have around in a crisis but he is not especially adept at handling the emotional fallouts. If there is a problem, he wants to figure out a way to fix it, and if it can't be fixed he is at a loss for what to do.

Initial Game Plan: Beyond the obvious getting settled and meeting people, Tom might take the opportunity to be out of the direct fray a bit more. Maybe go back to being a librarian. We will see how long that lasts now that he has been irrevocably changed by the circumstances of his canon lol.
RP Interests: Obviously friendly CR, he's poly so maybe a partner or two??? He's become part of a fairly large but close knit community in canon, and has been ripped away from a platonic life partner of over a decade so.... there will be a lot of homesickness to work through.
Preferred Job: Still considering options for him

Character Age: 30's
Canon: Mouthwashing
Canon Point: Post-game
CRAU (if any): N/a
• ────────── •
History: "It's a great opportunity. Easy money. Just a trip or two..." Grant Curly, born in the age of commercialized space travel, makes his living hauling crap from Mother Earth to insinuated new-home, Mars. His enthusiasm for spacefaring and fascination with the cosmos has, over the span of a decade, shriveled to a spiteful nothing. He dreads each new contract but continues to fly for lack of a better alternative. To fulfill a particular friendship. He's grown comfortable in his dread, and refuses change. Change is scary. Change hurts. Aboard the freighter Tulpar, Curly and his crew's flight path is disturbed after he attempts to crash the ship. Brutally injured, it's up to Tulpar's nurse to keep him alive... What ensues is a nightmare of shitty cake and equine hallucinations. His wiki can be found here.

Personality: Curly is, to his ultimate detriment, a bit of a pushover. He's generally revered as a great captain, stern when he needs to be, with a great care for his crew, but proves time and time again as too lenient. His habitual focusing on the bigger picture is what ultimately leads to his crew's demise, and with it (in addition to his near-fatal injuries) comes a maelstrom of guilt and regret. His kindness toward others is not so easily taken, however. He'll want for nothing more than to make amends with those people he's wronged. Luckily, death heralds new beginnings, and upon landing on the sandy banks of Pumpkin Hollow he'll fix a life that means something.

Initial Game Plan: After finding fishy employment, Curly will settle down in his home on the bluffs and seek out familiar faces. Supernatural shenanigans and laments with Death herself (waves @ Mortanne), will be sure to follow.
RP Interests: Building CR with new characters in addition to those within his canon! I'm particularly interested in exploring his experience on Mipha's Grace, and how he navigates his trauma on the salty open seas. Lot's of references to How Fish Is Made planned. Really, I want Curly to get a fighting chance at peace. To resolve his wrongs and try to better himself.
Preferred Job: Laborer/fisherman on Mipha's Grace.

Player Name: Yarrow
Other Characters (if any): Artemy & Jimmy

Character

Character Name: Sakura Matou
Character Age: 16, while the character is very much a teenager in certain ways she behaves and acts the nature of her canon as well as her own personal backstory makes her suitable in my very humble opinion. She's gone through the ringer. (Plus she turns 17 on March 2nd, extra bonus for me)
Canon: Fate/Stay Night
Canon Point:

During Heaven's Feel, Slight but pretty big death AU.
Instead of Rin succeeding in saving Sakura during the ending, she is forced to kill her.

CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: Would you forgive me if I became a bad person?
Personality: Sakura is. Gosh. The thing is the entirety of Fate/Stay Night is told by an unreliable narrator. Sakura is typically happy and upbeat around the protagonist, Shirou, because she's in love with him. While it's hinted that she isn't really this way when he isn't around, he's incredibly fucking dense and doesn't realize this. She's actually pretty gloomy and reserved on her own. She's full of resentment and jealousy and considering the way she's been treated? It's entirely valid.

Because of her canon point also she's sort of dropped the facade away even more. A precanon Sakura would come with all of these flaws but in a more reserved, quiet package. A fuse waiting to blow. But after the events in her life coming to a head she's going to be in more of an outwardly angry place. She does love cooking still as well as archery and is going to be getting back into those hobbies and trying to enjoy her newfound freedom away from everything she was forced to live through. But she's still carrying around a chip on her shoulder and a general suspicion of others.
Initial Game Plan: She's going to start out as really hesitant and suspicious of everyone around her. She isn't really one to keep quiet and girlrot though, so she'll likely get a job in a kitchen or something like that.
RP Interests: She needs to get her galpal on so bad. She needs to make friends. I want her to more slowly and realistically work up to a point where she would be in post HF (happy and content with life) while wrestling with insecurities and the shit that has happened to her. Positive older role models in her life would be good. People who understand what she's been through to some degree (as an abusive victim, as a murderer, etc) would be good too as she really views herself as alone & no one could possibly ever understand.
Preferred Job: Pppft whatever work in a kitchen would be. More like a chef assistant or something like that.
NSFW-friendly?: That awkward moment when your teenaged character has absolutely had sex before. I can see a handwave/very quick fade to black with a character her own age she's in a loving and committed relationship with but other than that absolutely not lmao.

Character Name: Agent Carolina / Catherine Church
Character Age: 29
Canon: Red vs. Blue
Canon Point: Carolina dies in her battle against the Director's army of Texas clones

• ────────── •

History: Link to her backstory page
Personality: Agent Carolina's earned confidence can, at times, border on arrogance. She's sharp-witted, focused, having trained her entire life to succeed and prepared to accept little else than perfection. Seldom has there been a time where she wasn't on-top, and in wake of losing this spot she fights viciously for it.

Beneath this armor of confidence is a deeply-seeded inferiority complex. Carolina's younger years are spent fretting that she may not live up to her father's expectations, and she resents and admires him in equal measure. These fears are later exacerbated when Agent Texas comes onto the scene, knocking Carolina down to no.2 on the leaderboard and inadvertently calling into question her value as a soldier. This (in addition to the death of her teammate Agent Connecticut) sends her on a reckless quest to re-establish her position and she becomes more cold and stand-offish to her teammates as a result.

However, her intense care for her crew is never overshadowed by this fact. She'll take every measure necessary to ensure their safety, even if it means pushing herself to the limit.

Her unwavering sense of duty, loyalty to her father and need to prove herself all contribute to her inevitable downfall. In not acknowledging these, in roping herself into a rivalry she cannot win, Agent Carolina dooms herself. Perhaps she does so knowingly, regardless of the consequences.
Initial Game Plan: Righting her wrongs with old friends, making new connections, learning to take a load off. Be kinder to yourself, Lina! Touch grass!
RP Interests: Interested in both positive and negative CR! Hit me with ideas, I'm down for anything
Preferred Job: She'll begin as a hunter, then transition to an enforcer after planned character development :3

Character Name: Sylus (generally just answers to "Wizard" though)
Character Age: Mid-to-late 20s
Canon: Dragon's Crown
Canon Point: Immediately after the Wizard's epilogue
CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: The Wizard arrives in the Kingdom of Hydeland - a kingdom besieged by armies of orcs, political intrigue, and a missing king, and forms an adventuring party to get involved with its troubles. Putting-down a myriad of monster attacks emerging from the nearby ancient sites impressed the Hydeland Adventurer's Guild and gained the company membership, allowing the Wizard and his companions to become significantly more involved in the growing sea of turmoil surrounding the kingdom. During an expedition to the Castle of the Dead the company are presented a scroll by a phantom knight, and would later discover that the phantasm was actually that of Hydeland's missing King.

Having been captured by nefarious forces, he took his own life to prevent himself from being used as a catalyst to revive the legendary Ancient Dragon. The news of the fallen king sets off a chain of events that reveals that the Prime Minister had been attempting a coup against the next heirs, Princess Vivian and her uncle Count Dean, and the company are instrumental in putting his machinations to an end. With the line of succession now clear the newly-appointed King Dean attempts to safeguard the kingdom's heavily-threatened borders and, to this end, travels to meet with envoys from the neighboring land of Morneon, but is betrayed on arrival and captured instead. Morneon sacrifices King Dean in an attempt to open the path to the Illusory Lands, hoping to be able to use the legendary Dragon's Crown to control the Ancient Dragon, but the magic needed for them to succeed had already been destroyed by the Wizard and his allies.

Despite Morneon's attempts to reach the Illusory Lands being stymied the sacrifice of Hydeland's King still means that the Ancient Dragon has now awoken and gathering power. In time it would have the ability to break free of its imprisonment and return to the world, where none would be able to stop it, so a preemptive strike was the only option. Gathering nine special talismans the Wizard and his allies travel to the Illusory Lands themselves and do battle with the Ancient Dragon. After a heated conflict the legendary beast is slain and the company of heroes are the victors. The threat of obliteration no longer hangs over Hydeland and its Knights are able to focus their efforts on the Orc threat, while Princess Vivian ascends the throne and inherits the now-ordinary Dragon's Crown.

The Goddess Althena, one of the three deities who sacrificed themselves to seal the Ancient Dragon away millennia ago, was restored thanks to the defeat of the Ancient Dragon and petitions the Wizard and his allies to help them in restoring her sisters as well. The company return to the Illusory Lands for two additional battles, fighting against the successively more powerful dragons responsible for stealing the Goddess's powers, and emerge victorious both times. With their success the restored goddesses declare the Wizard and his company as the "Gate Guardians" of the Illusory Land and proclaim that they will become mythic figures, their names recorded forever in history..

With the land of Hydeland now safe the Wizard returned home to use the reagents yielded by the Ancient Dragon's defeat to undo the state of undeath his sister had been trapped in. The last thing he saw before awakening in his new surroundings was his sister's face smiling up at him.
Personality: The Wizard served as the leader of the adventurer's company that saved Hydeland from the threat of the Ancient Dragon and possesses just the combination of logistical acumen and responsible leadership needed to keep such powerful personalities on-mission. He has a more cynical and dour personality than his age would suggest, but the same skepticism that can make his companions see him as a downer often renders him the voice of reason in any given situation. That same level of caution is not applied to his studies, though, as the Wizard is both an avid learner and reader. His appetite for mapping the unknown and growing his mastery of the arcane is fueled by his desire to protect his loved ones, and can override his better judgement as a result. Time and experience has tempered his wilder magical inclinations however, and the lessons learned in restoring his sister's health are not ones that he will ever forget.

Though he respects and values his companions there is a certain level of superiority in how the Wizard views his non-magical companions, and he disapproves of the idea of utilizing brute strength for something that could be solved far more elegantly through the magical arts. Despite his preference for fellow practitioners of magic he and the other spellcaster of the team had the greatest rivalry in the company. With both utilizing magic through wildly different methods there was no shortage of competition to prove their given methods superior, resulting in more than a little immaturity and ego throughout their questing. Much of this bickering would come to be driven by unspoken attraction between the two, however, and the eventual admission of these feelings resulted in an immediate and visible difference. Though neither magister ever admitted it to the rest of the company, and a veneer of haughtiness is eternally draped over their interactions, something deeper grew between the two by the time their quest came to its conclusion.

Wizard has little in the way of family, meaning he is largely free of connections, but he cares for his little sister dearly and has spent much of his life trying to find a cure to the illnesses she has been plagued with since childhood. His entire journey to Hydeland was to remedy the terrible side-effects one of his attempts to cure her had brought about and, though it had succeeded in taking away her pain, the state of deathlessness it had condemned her to will forever be one of his greatest points of shame. As the only family either has the two share an incredibly deep bond, with him quite literally moving mountains to ensure her well-being, but sadly having to be absent for extended periods as a result. His separation from her just as he was able to truly restore her to health will be a point of continuous unease and worry for him, though he will do his utmost to ensure it doesn't show.
Initial Game Plan: Death and resurrection are fairly common in his setting, so the idea that he's been whisked to another place as a result of a death or near dearth would catch him off-guard. The presence of a settlment and other people would make the adjustment easier, though, and so he would try to busy himself with being useful in order to avoid focusing on having been removed from his sister and all the people he cares for. Empty hands would make idle minds, so he would focus on getting a fairly well established base of operations on the island as in order to stave off the thoughts that too much quiet would bring. Meeting new people and exploring any new magical creations the new plants and creatures offered would certainly help distraction, though, and with any luck he'd end up with enough of a routine that he was actually settled-in well before he realized it.
RP Interests: Island exploration, delving unusual or dagnerous locations, experimenting with whatever new magics fellow magisters might have brought into the setting, and growing familiar with the myriad of new flora and fauna he's been presented with in Pumpkin Hollow.
Preferred Job: Arcanist/Magister - Creating and selling magic goods, removing curses, and serving as a general source of magical knowledge. Additionally, as a Guild adventurer in his prior life, the idea of being able to form something similar with other magic users in the setting would be very appealing.

• ────────── •
History: The Sorceress, along with the other members of the adventure's company (Wizard, Fighter, Dwarf, Elf, Amazon), arrive in Hydeland and get involved with battles against surging monster attacks from ancient sites across the land, and a political coup attempted by the Prime Minister against the next heirs, Princess Vivian and her Uncle Dean, following the disappearance of the king. The king killed himself to thwart a ritual by the malevolent Morneon religion to summon a powerful ancient dragon, sealed in the Illusionary Lands by the world's goddesses. Key to their plot is the Dragon's Crown, an artifact that was imbued with the power to control dragons. Following his ascension to the throne, Dean is sacrificed by Morneon just as the previous king was, though the adventuring company has already destroyed the existing magic to reach the Illusionary Lands. The company found nine talismans to enter the Illusionary Lands and slay the ancient dragon before it can break free and cause destruction to the kingdom and possibly the realm. Vivian was made queen and inherited the now-powerless Dragon's Crown.

The goddesses of the land, one of which was restored by the ancient dragon's defeat, then tasked the adventure's company with defeating two progressively stronger dragons which stole their power. Upon accomplishing these tasks, the restored goddesses declare the company as the "Gate Guardians" for the Illusionary Lands, their name recorded in their mythology.

After these events, the Sorceress briefly entertains the nobility as a fortune teller before returning to an adventuring life. While death isn't unfamiliar with her, waking up in Pumpkin Hollow was something of a surprise, as normally she simply wakes up in the town chapel.

Personality: The Sorceress was a member of the adventurer's company that defeated the Legendary Ancient Dragon, and her mixture of playful optimism and knowing maturity played a key part in lifting the shadow that hung over the Kingdom of Hydeland. Outwardly, she is a typical enchantress — coquettish, mysterious, and even a touch cruel at times — but those who get to know her find that a far more mature version of her sits beneath the surface. Past the veneer of frogs and skeletons sits something of a maternal side, leading her to act as a kind of a den mother to her allies. She ensures they are well-fed on their expeditions by cooking and even transmutating food for them, and whether through her own culinary talent or through more magical means, the dishes that she prepares are, without exception, delicious.

In spite of this caring side, Sorceress has had little in the way of companionship, having been single her whole life and struggling to see her affection returned even in the friendships she's maintained. Between her extreme natural talent with magic and her stunning looks, the majority of people she crosses paths wtih are either intimidated or only seek to interact with her in an effort to use of her for one reason or another. To this end, she's grown hardened to the idea of making meaningful connections and instead leans in to what she's grown used to people wanting from her. She knows what she looks like, so why wouldn't she use it to her advantage? Making use of her charms has allowed her to gain much in the way of luxuries, but the constant need to put on an act definitely weighs on her.

The adventuring company she joined in Hydeland would be the first time that she would work with people who didn't see her as exploitable, as it was made of equally exceptional individuals. While guarded and aloof initially, the opportunity to be seen simply as herself was something she'd never known and meant that true friendships were able to be formed. Not having people cowtow to her did certainly cause unexpected irritation though, particularly from the company's other magic useer. Being in a situation where her normally-unrivaled arcane abilities were not only in-line with the abilities of her peers but there was actually someone looking down on her as "unrefined" was something she'd never had. A bratty side would show itself through this rivalry, resulting in more than a little immaturity from both magician — but this competition would also light a fire in her to grow stronger in the mystic arts. The constant back-and-forth between the two would come to be driven by unspoken attraction and, when these feelings would finally be admitted, the difference in tension was immediate and visible. Although neither magician ever admitted it to the rest of the company, and their interactions remained largely colored by competition and ego, something deeper had blossomed between them by the time the adventure came to and end.

Sorceress had grown up with little and spent much of her life chasing the finer things, so the wealth and prestige that she enjoyed in the wake of their success was everything that she had been looking for, but her time with the adventurer's company had shown her that there was more to life than simple luxuries. As pretty as she looked in fine dresses, and as fun as it was to wow petty nobles with fortunes and parlor tricks, the thrill of adventure's had become a core part of who she was now. Cracking open dusty tombs and delving into ancient ruins brought a rush incomperable to anything else, and the bonds she'd formed in such places were ones she sorely missed.

Initial Game Plan: Likely finding out as much informationas she can, picking up odd jobs here and there, seeing who she can help out with her magical abilities. Arguing and being tsundere with Wizard.
RP Interests: Everything and anything! I love all sorts of CR, positive, negative. Give it all to me.
Preferred Job: Entertainer/Entrepreneur although she'd also enjoy being a Cook.
NSFW-friendly?: Yes. I mean, just look at her.

Personality: Zack is motivated and driven, he face harsh realities with an upbeat, caring and compassionate attitude. He can both restless and easily bored, which leads to him doing things like squats and random exercises when something is moving too slow or is stagnant. This has earned him the nickname The Puppy, because he tends to act like an overexcited pup. He's never resented this term however, as he likes dogs.

He's flirty but not a womanizer, he just loves making women and some men feel good about themselves. He knows he's good looking but he doesn't take that for granted, he knows he's lucky to have been in a good gene pool. So he uses it to his advantage and helps others feel good about themselves.

He's easily the most friendly person in the room, finding himself befriending others easily. He has an easy comraderie about himself because of that. He loves to make friends and sees himself as something as a hero. He wants to be a hero and follow his dreams, he dreams of having celebrations in his honor but mostly honoring his friends.

He has an air of naiveness which leads to him being too lenient with his enemies at times when they could easily turn on him. He's not even jaded by the end of his journey he was more jaded, despite keeping up his tone of optimistism and following his heart regardless if Shinra turned on him. He found himself hoping his memory would live on and during his death, tried to instill his glory into Cloud.

Now that he's in Pumpkin Hollow, he's definitely jaded by the idea of being part of the government. He knows he died and he knows his own company did him in.
Initial Game Plan: No Idea. I'm hoping to get a few threads going and make a few friends. We'll see.
RP Interests: Making friends, going on adventures, maybe becoming a little romantic.
Preferred Job: No idea. We'll figure it out though.

Canon Point: Episode 3.24, "Abyssinia, Henry"
CRAU (if any): n/a
• ────────── •
History: here
Personality: Oh Henry. How do we even begin to describe such a man. He's a commanding officer who is in no way, shape, or form cut out to be one. He's down-to-earth and easygoing, an all-around nice guy, but when it comes to dishing out orders and actually ensuring that said orders are followed, he's lacking. He's easily manipulated because he doesn't want to be the bad guy. He's willing to look the other way if people (Drs. Hawkeye Pierce and Trapper John McIntyre for isntance) want to engage in less-than-military-approved behavior because, again, he doesn't want to be the bad guy. His lax take on command earn him little respect among the more zealously military-oriented members of the unit, Majors Margaret Houlihan and Frank Burns, both of whom would love nothing more than to see Henry gone so Frank could command in his place. The pair go over his head countless times (so often he's got athlete's scalp! henry says) and have no qualms about insulting Henry but he generally shrugs off whatever they do. Through the course of his three seasons on the show we do see a slight improvement on how he handles situations requiring stern leadership but not by much. It's more like he's tired of putting up with everyone else's crap and therefore takes a few steps closer to the proverbial plate, but doesn't quite reach it.

Henry really is just one of the boys. He's happier playing poker and golf than ordering people around, and he enjoys a good drink and cigar. He's also pretty funny, although it's not always intentional. Like, he jokes around a fair amount but he's also known to say some pretty silly offhand remarks that seem to be serious. During one conversation with Radar about time zones, Henry laments the fact that everyone can't run on the same time, to which Radar explains that it's because the world is round and spinning so people have to go by different times. Henry's response? "Oh, I thought it was an army thing." Also when he's nervous – in hot water with a higher ranking officer, for example – he'll sometimes pop off with stupid jokes that earn laughs from no one but himself.

A father of three and happily married, Henry has a great life back home in Bloomington, Illinois. However, that doesn't stop him from fraternizing with nurses, and once he even had plans to leave his wife, Lorraine, because he thought he was in love with a 21-year-old. He's also had more than one extramarital affair before his time in the war. He does love Lorraine though and often speaks fondly of her — then again, he seems to speak fondly of her good looks more often than her personality. Furthermore, when she writes him and tells him that it's okay if he cheats on her, he instantly becomes worried that this means that she's cheating on him which he is totally not okay with so you can probably gather what kind of hypocritical stance he has on relationships. So, first-class husband he is not, but Henry is at least a good and loving father – he even keeps drawings his children have mailed him on display in his office.

His role as a father carries over into his work at the 4077th. Radar O'Reilly, whom u may already know, quickly becomes like a son to him. Henry watches out for Radar and gives him advice on a regular basis, while Radar in turn helps Henry keep things running around the unit, making sure that papers get signed and calls get made and so forth since Henry often isn't even aware that such things are due to be done.

Radar isn't the only member of the 4077th he's given advice to, either. Most people don't make a habit of going to him when they need advice but he's perfectly willing to give it when he sees that it's needed. Perhaps the most memorable instance is in the episode "Sometimes You Hear the Bullet." In this episode, a friend of Hawkeye's unexpectedly shows up at the MASH unit and explains that he's there to write a book about life on the front lines of war. He leaves to begin his research but later returns to the 4077th — this time as a wounded man. Unfortunately he's unable to be saved and his death affects Hawkeye deeply. Henry approaches Hawkeye to comfort him in the best way he can, in the end telling him, "Look, all I know is what they taught me at command school. There are certain rules about a war. And rule number one is young men die. And rule number two is doctors can't change rule number one." It might not sound like much but it shows that even though Henry might not be a master wordsmith or a great leader, he's a compassionate man and he'll try to help you out if he notices you're going through it.

Overall, a quote by our dear beloved Hawkeye probably best describes Henry. In a letter to his father, he writes that Henry is "a good doctor and a pretty good Joe. However, as a commanding officer, it's a bit like being on a sinking liner, running to the bridge, and finding out the captain is Daffy Duck." After his death, he's recalled fondly by other characters in later seasons on more than one occasion.

Initial Game Plan: Settle in with mild-to-moderate confusion but a generally good attitude.
RP Interests: Literally open to anything. Like even if there's someone out there who's like "I want my guy to freakin HATE Henry Blake" then I'm ok with that. I'm just here for fun. And the horrors.
Preferred Job: Joining the horde of physicians by day, eventually running a golf course by night
NSFW-friendly?: probably not lol

Basil is, generally speaking, a very sweet boy. He loves plants, he loves flowers, he loves taking pictures and hes a genuine caretaker in many ways- but he's also very, very broken inside. If possible I'd rather split the personality in two sections: what people see and the turmoil inside him that does bring Basil to a very unfortunate fate in most endings.

What we see of Basil comes from three specific, tragic days of his life and what's basically... well, memories of him from Sunny and his interpretation of Basil in his own mind (Headspace). Basil is caring by nature, a bit shy and genuinely humble, often praising others and pushing himself down

He's caring, he's humble, and he has a strong passion for plants and flowers, taking care of them with love. He knows plenty about the language of flowers, the properties of plants and he's the kind of person who'd rather enjoy himself a good book (He canonically loves reading) with some herbal tea over a party, even if he loved spending time with his small group of friends.

He is mostly quiet, staying often in the background, and he is really good at hiding his own problems and worries unless he really trusts someone. Then... he may end up oversharing. Which may be an issue, because that's also when he starts growing unhealthy levels of attachment but we'll tackle that later.

Basil is overall a strong person, even if we see him in his worst days so we may get the opposite impression on first impact, and he is a protector ready to help those he loves no matter if he gets hurt in the process... but, sadly, there's a lot 'wrong' with him.

I wrote a bit about it in the permissions page so I'd like that to be a trigger warning on the matter, is possible. Basil has massive abandonment issues, hallucinations, depression and one his mind sets on a delusion, it's actually a bit difficult for him to step away from it. He'll put other people on pedestals while putting himself down, and sometimes this 'others are perfect, unlike me' can snowball into very dangerous territories. The most blatant example we have in game is his relationship with Sunny which is... complicated at best.

Basil straight up ends up setting up a fake suicide to 'protect' Sunny, he ends up convincing himself that it cannot possibly be Sunny's fault if Mari died and ends up covering for it any lying for four years, because Sunny is his 'best friend' and he 'would never'.  The obsession with sunny, which is something I'd love to work around  (to heal from it) rp wise, can be tied with a few things in their childhood:

1) sunny was 'safe' and listened, something he probably didn't have/couldn't have because he couldn't worry grandma and his parents were pretty much gone regardless. (Even when Grandma gets sick and is bedridden/close to death, they merely hire someone, Polly, to watch over her and their son instead of, you know, visiting.)

2) He may have some kind of heavy delusions and the fear of losing his friends got him to 'protect' sunny, with his isolation feeding into delusions over delusions where both he and sunny are victims of a monster no one knows about so they SHOULD stick together, right? It's painfully ironic how his fear of losing what he had ended up costing him everything.

3) He seems to have hold into the idea of 'when sunny comes out, we'll fix things' something that didn't happen until three days left and then his world breaks. sunny is leaving. Sunny even abandons him in the bathroom. Everything crashes.

He's surprisingly good at putting up a front, considering no one really seemed to know he had issues beside Sunny when they were kids, and the only reason we see the mask slip and how traumatized Basil is- it's because we meet him as everything is falling apart around him. His grandma is dying, Sunny is leaving for good (and, from his point of view, leaving him with a monster), Aubrey has been actively hostile toward him. he loses his flower pin after falling into a lake (a present from grandma)- everything is horrible and he snaps. But what people forget is that he kept it together for years, fighting a battle in silence, without telling anyone about anything and doing his best to protect Sunny, at least from his point of view. Even the 'ending' is an attempts of Basil to protect. He'll do all in his power to help those he cares about... hiding as much as possible his own pain.

Anxiety is a big issue for Basil. He has little levels of self-care, but he'll get nervous if others risk to get hurt. He'll take the blame for things he didn't do so others don't get hurt in the process, he'll actively choose to be hated instead of having others he loves be the target of negative feelings, but that doesn't mean this kind of things gloss all over him. He has a high base level of anxiety that rarely leaves him and when it reaches very high levels he may see things that aren't even there or have his own mind clouded with delusions.

He will still smile, he'll still do his best to be 'happy' in front of others, but he may also lock himself away and isolate himself if his stress levels get too high- which may culminate with him 'snapping'. This will not be anything against someone else, but his delusions and visions may make him do stupid things when that happens- like during the final battle where he 'attacks' Sunny with shears, trying to 'save him' from Something (the monster he believed pushed Mari down the staircase, the one he blamed for everything). He wanted to help, he ended up hospitalizing Sunny and making him lose an eye.

Overall things... are complicated. But on a surface level he'll mostly appear calm, composed and possibly cheerful as long as he manages.

- Headcanon territory - (Aka things that have a very loose relevance in canon but I still enjoy the idea)
  • He is mostly vegetarian: We know his favorite food is Tofu and it's somehow fitting for him to approach a mostly vegetarian lifestyle, especially if he's ever forced to provide his own proteins. With his knowledge of plants, he'll easily be able to follow a relatively healthy and complete diet with a moderate amount of animal proteins in it.
  • He loves spiders and bugs: We only really see it in Sunny's headspace, but he has a whole little speech about how spiders are friends, not foes (before being devoured alive by them. Thanks, Sunny.), and he seemed happy during their bug catching exploration if we read the picture description about it- I like to imagine that, being a gardener/florist, Basil knows a whole lot about the whole natural cycle and appreciates greatly the 'little soldiers' that protect his flowers from actual pests.
  • After waking up in the hospital, not only he got the secret UwU moment with Sunny (which has a lot to unpack: Sunny canonically mentions not liking to smile but he does, there and Basil smiles back... even if he just literally hacked away Sunny's eye. The relief of the other still being there seems to bring a whole new level of 'messed up' to their friendship) but he also got to figure out the truth from him. I'd love to pick him taking the cut picture from his reaction to the truth as 'canon' (Here), aka: Basil knows he messed up, how badly, that there (probably) was no monster hiding in the shadows and pushing Mari and it's basically a new starting point for him, after the horror of what he did initially sunk in.
Initial Game Plan: Well, he will think he deserved to die. Unlike others, he may not settle to get his life back or whatever, but to help others during their path. He will need time to adjust, though, and at least some minimal level of social net before he starts being 'useful' (at least in his own mind)

RP Interests: Friendships. God, Basil needs friends so badly, even if he'll fully believe he doesn't deserve them AT ALL. He may keep things superficial in the beginning, too, not really sharing much about himself and mostly talking about plants and other things, but he needs... not to feel lonely. He dealt with that for four years, it'd be healing for him to have people around to care about and who care about him.

Mentors: he's a teen. He has an embarrassing amount of knowledge when it comes to gardening but there's a lot that he still needs to learn about life, so that would be so welcome.

For now I'm not searching, for the first month, negative CR because he comes from a very difficult time of his life, but I'll be more than open about them once he's a tiny bit more stable.

Preferred Job: From the proper list?  Physician, farmer or apprentice (he's still only 17).

Florist, Herbalist, farmer, anything related to healing with plants would be FANTASTIC. I'd love for him to mentor under someone in the medical field, especially, and maybe open a little corner for himself where to sell herbal teas- but that's in the VERY long run when he saved enough brass to do anything with it!

NSFW-friendly?: No. Even if he was to 'grow up' into an adult (he's currently 17), i'm not even currently looking for shipping with him at the moment (too much healing to be had) so it's a big no.

Vickie Reeds (Nyx) | Changeling: the Lost (Cinderella Sanction) + CRAU

Player Name: Vox
Other Characters (if any): Agent Jean, River (both DTNPC)

Character

Character Name: Vickie Reeds (Nyx)
Character Age: 23+ (Various Time Abysses)
Canon: Changeling: the Lost 1e (Cinderella Sanction)
Canon Point: Part 3: Lord Here I Come (but see below)
CRAU (if any): Come Sail Away (the Village; Vickie was part of the same voyage and horror as Mulcahy)
• ────────── •
History: A pastor's daughter who became a professional spree killer, Vickie has been through political ups and downs in her society that left her adrift. Before the horror that was Serena Eterna she had been remanded to a position similar to a militia captain, a job she did while caring for the troubled Wonderlanders - teens who had attempted to sell themselves to faeries. Her voyage aboard Serena Eterna was bloody, brutal, and then degrading as she was remanded to the Village, there to develop new and insidious forms of trauma about her identity, her privacy, and her self-worth.
Personality: Caustic, defensive, crass, and performatively bold. Vickie threatens people for the same reason cats hiss, but she's tired, so tired, all of the time. She doesn't wanna fight. Killing doesn't even give the same thrill it used to any more. Somewhere under the layers of scars and defensive irony there's a funny and warm lass that Vickie herself thinks is dead, but isn't, not really.
Initial Game Plan: Settle in, work on arranging things with the island's rats so she can build Rat Park, try to heal, get laid, Definitely Don't Develop Feelings (already failed)
RP Interests: I'ma be so real I'm here to build CR and avoid plot like the plague, just in the interests of keeping my own sanity IRL in check. She's already got some connections from the Visitor's Center or through Mulcahy, and otherwise I wanna follow down where stuff leads.
Preferred Job: Artisan (Sous Chef)
NSFW-friendly?: Yes

Aldo Bellini | Conclave

Character

Character Name: Aldo Bellini
Character Age: 65
Canon: Conclave (2024)
Canon Point: End of the movie. Plus...
CRAU (if any): I'm continuing to use his additional characterization and history from the fanmade Delectatio Morosa visual novel, and his canon point is shortly after All Saints' Day, the end of the game. I'm coming at it with the intention that his personal canon is Aldo's Good End (Amici En Perpetuum), which can be independent from the Vatican Bicycle special ending so in the deeply unlikely event that a canonmate shows up, they can decide if they want to add the Accidental Harem Anime Protagonist Thomas Lawrence flavor to the shared lore. That in particular has no bearing on how I'm going to play him, it's just very very funny to me. Delectatio Morosa is kind of The Game Of All Time.
• ────────── •
History: Film and novel @ wiki. Drawing on the novel for some characterization but overall he's from the film. There is some fanon backstory I'm adopting as well: that he is a (necessarily closeted) gay man from NYC who provided pastoral care to his community during the AIDS crisis in the 80s, and that he was formerly the Archbishop of New York before becoming the Vatican Secretary of State.
Personality: Aldo is described in the novel as "brilliant but neurotic", which is probably the best way to encapsulate him. And if he's being honest with himself, he can't really argue with the "neurotic" part. He was the prospective front-runner for the papacy once the late, unnamed Pope had died, and he hadn't even wanted the job. He was willing to take the chalice in order to prevent a conservative from becoming the Pope and undoing all of the work the late Pope had done. He essentially saw himself as the least-worst option, and when you're voting for such an important position, you really don't want to have to settle for the least-worst option. But enough about American politics...!

Aldo is a cautious individual. That caution can sometimes extend into cowardice, as he has been quite recently and painfully called out on. He's opinionated and not shy about it, even when he knows it's not going to make him any friends. When told by his "campaign manager" not to mention his belief that women should have a place in the Curia, he rejects it, saying that he's not going to water down his beliefs to be palatable. His caution more comes about implementing strategies he feels would not be advantageous in the long run. Thomas calls him a coward when Aldo pleads with him not to release the evidence of Tremblay's simony, because he'd calculated that there was no other candidate that could defeat Tedesco (his worstie) in the conclave. When Thomas was aghast, Aldo blithely said of Tremblay "we've had worse", having long since given up on his own candidacy. He was trying to cover his fear of a Tedesco papacy with pragmatism about a Tremblay papacy, and feared the potential consequences of himself rising to the top of the field under such circumstances. He was worried about being seen as "the Richard Nixon of Popes" that way, using damaging information about an opponent to his own benefit. Unfortunately for him, he's not quite Machiavellian enough to be Pope, and it stung when he realized he was the late Pope's strategic sacrifice to get Benítez on the throne of St. Peter.

Enough of the "neurotic", now to the "brilliant".

Aldo is a former Rector of the Gregorian University. To be Secretary of State of the Vatican, you've got to be quick on the draw. He used to play chess with the late Pope, who always managed to outmaneuver him (so that really shows just how much of an auto-played chess game the whole conclave is, with the late Pope setting the board for the past year with nobody being the wiser). He looked up to the late Pope quite a bit, and noted how conspiratorial and paranoid the Pope became as his life neared its end. (Probably a good thing Aldo did not get the papacy, he does not need any help with the neurotic side of things.)

He's an optimist. To be a progressive reformer in the Catholic Church, you kind of have to be. On the other side of that coin, he's extremely stubborn. Again, to be a progressive reformer in the Catholic Church, you kind of have to be. He's also willing to admit when he's wrong and apologize, especially if he's being called out by a good friend so he can take the criticism as constructive rather than as an attack. (Thomas calling him a coward was one thing, but if Adeyemi or Tedesco had called him a coward there may have been actual hands thrown.) Pride is no more his vice than any other cardinal's during the conclave, but while some refused to overcome it, he worked hard to push down his disappointment and be both the person that Thomas knows he can be and the Secretary of State that Benítez needs.

Initial Game Plan: Local workaholic who's had a blisteringly stressful month and no chance to grieve for his mentor has a suddenly-there's-nothing-to-stress-about breakdown, cries for an hour, gets a hobby.
RP Interests: This man needs a life outside of work. I'd be interested in getting him some friends, enemies, frienemies, and maybe even discussing theology! I am gonna keep him off of the plot beat aside from being one of your local Latin-knowing fellas.
Preferred Job: Since Mulcahy's got the priesting down pat and Aldo doesn't want to horn in on that, he'll probably be doing some social services, back to pastoral care. Maybe even teaching! Valdis suggested that he teach Latin, which is the funniest possible outcome, so that's probably what's going to happen.
NSFW-friendly?: Sorry, gang, he's got that vow of chastity. No banging Stanley Tucci today, I'm afraid.

Canon Point: Start of Chapter 5, right before waking up from her internal Nova memory dive
CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: Wiki Link. Choices wise, she's coming from a route where her major choices were:
- She told Gabe about her powers.
- She did not tell Eleanor that Gabe had died when she forgot, later causing Riley not to leave for college.
- She calmed down Mac, meaning he stayed in town.
- She did not take Charlotte's anger, meaning she didn't snap at her friends later and later in the game Charlotte will stand up for her, and Ryan will believe her.
- She took Pike's fear instead of signing her own affidavit.
Other choices are from beyond her canon-point, but she won't get total support at the meeting and she will choose 'forgive' when confronting Jed. I'm playing it loose whether she locked in her romance route with Steph for now.
Personality: The key word to describe Alex is 'empathetic'. It's more than just her abilities, it's the way she processes the emotions she absorbs as a result of them, and how she learns to use her abilities to help people. She truly understands people—something that can be a curse as much as a blessing, but one that she's come to appreciate more with time.

This doesn't stop her from being rather shy and awkward when she's in a new place. If anything, her abilities have made her social life infinitely more complicated over the years, leading to her accidentally saying something she shouldn't know, or making people who feel strongly hard to be around, or just from the pressure of keeping the secret. But beneath the initial awkward surface she's a dorky, goofy, snarky girl with a confidence that grows with time.

It also doesn't stop her from being deeply emotionally repressed in her own special way. Being aware of other people's emotions all the time, to the point that they've often overtaken her own, gives her a convenient excuse to not really unpack her own trauma and emotions in any meaningful way. She's not unaware of how she feels, most of the time, and might even be able to articulate it quite well in the quiet of her own head, but that doesn't mean she deals with it!

She's also creative, stubborn, responsible, and a quick thinker. She's pulled herself through remarkable hardship on the power of her own resilience and through her music.

Initial Game Plan: Alex is going to be a little overwhelmed but also just tough it out, this isn't her first time having to rapidly adjust to being new to a small town with some weird shit going on.
RP Interests: I very much want to have Alex keep trying to help people with her powers, once she's settled and getting to know the town/people. Her Nova state is a great mine for unpacking other characters' emotional states, though it requires a bit of work between players. And of course I want her to make some proper friends, to learn to deal with her own emotions, so on, and for her to meet more people with abilities to realise she's not just an aberration. Also theoretically open to shipping, I'm keeping her in-canon romance vague for now.
Preferred Job: Unsure! If she builds up her nerve, maybe she'll go for entertainer, but she might look for a non-performer job at the Empty Pockets or something first.
NSFW-friendly?: Yes, in theory, but it'd take some build-up.
