What is Drop-to-NPC?
Characters that are considered Drop-to-NPC are characters who are not being played full-time by their players, but have had an integral role to the game and the town of Pumpkin Hollow - thus, instead of being fully dropped and disappearing off the island, some players will opt to have their characters become "set dressing" for the town, continuing their roles and their relationships in an off-screen capacity.

If one of these characters would like to be played by a new player, we recommend contacting the player who DTNPC'd their character, and determine the best path forward in a hand-off or clean slate. If any assistance is needed with this process, feel free to reach out to a mod, or send a PM to the mod journal, and we'll gladly help out!


What are Infernal Servants?
Characters that are brought in as villains by one of the Demon Royals is considered an Infernal Servant, remaining as part of the game in a limited capacity by the choice of the players. They are bound by demonic contract, but receive a bredth of new abilities and potential ways to interact with the plot as a result.


What are Special Characters?
Any character that is technically taken, but did not arrive to Pumpkin Hollow normally, and was brought in through another means, is considered a Special Character. These don't show up too frequently, but are important to have noted down when they do!

Character Claim

To claim a character, you'll post the form at the bottom of the post in a reply to the comment for that month. Please no toplevel character claims! This helps us stay organized.

How many characters can you claim? Each player may claim a maximum of seven characters at this time. We recommend you do them one at a time, taking time to find your footing with each one before adding the next, but we have no specific requirements as to when you can app in each character. You can also always test drive as many characters as you want.

What kinds of characters can you bring in? Our rule of thumb is that any character that makes reasonable narrative sense. Please note that the death or near-death experience required for the narrative does not necessarily have to be canon--- you can invent one specifically for RP purposes here! See our FAQ for more information or ask a mod if you're not sure, but most things should be fine Original characters welcomed and encouraged!

Is there an age minimum for characters? Yes and no. Due to the fact that Pumpkin Hollow is inherently a horror-centric game and is NSFW-friendly, we strongly recommend and prefer characters that are over the age of 18. However, we may take applications for characters who are minors on a case-by-case basis if we believe that they would be narratively well-suited to the setting. There is no specific minimum age, but age will be taken into consideration alongside other factors when we make these decisions. Feel free to ask a moderator about the suitability of a character younger than 18 before filling out an application.

Is there a cast cap? Not presently! However, we do want to keep our overall cast as diverse as possible, so if we need to, we may set a reasonable cap proportional to the size of our game down the road.

What about doubles of an existing player character? Doubles are not encouraged but would be accepted if each version is significantly unique from the other. For example, the protagonist a game with multiple branching paths might be wildly different between those paths!

What does it mean if a character is labelled DTNPC or Infernal Servant? These characters are considered present on the island, but are not being played as full-time PCs. Infernal Servants are characters brought in as villains for certain events that were permitted to stay via demonic contract. NPCs were previous characters converted to NPCs upon being dropped. If you are interested in playing these characters, you will need to contact the player and/or the mods to discuss how to handle it.

Can I play more than one character from the same canon? Again, this isn't necessarily encouraged, as we'd much prefer castmates be able to interact freely. However, if you receive mod approval then yes, playing multiple characters from a canon is possible on a case-by-case basis. Approval will depend on various factors (e.g. characters from your original canon or that do not interact are easiest to approve). However, please note that you cannot acquire bonus AC for threads/interactions solely between your own characters.

Can my character bring along an attached NPC? This is may be allowed on a case-by-case basis if it makes narrative sense. For example, Sam from Death Stranding could ostensibly come here with Lou, the baby he carries with him. Please reach out to the mod team to discuss the specifics of your situation! We try to be flexible where we can.

How to Get Started

To begin your new life, you'll need to follow a few simple steps:

• First, you will apply as a player to be a member of our group, filling out some contact info and agreeing to the rules. This step only needs to be done one time when you initially apply. [Player App!]
• Next, you'll need to review the taken page and fill out a character claim to app in your characters. These pages are merged for mod and player convenience! This step will need to be done each time you add a new character to Pumpkin Hollow. [Character Claim!]
• Request membership to ph_logs and ph_ooc to get access to all our members-only posts. Our meme comm is public, so no need to request that one!
• You will need to set up a bank ledger for each character to keep track of in-game currency. More info on the Bank page!
